Rotary Club of Bishkek, the First Club of Kyrgyzstan

Part of our History of Rotary in Asia

 The Rotary Club of Bishkek was formed at the end of 1998 on the initiative of three foreigners: an Italian citizen, a British citizen, and an American citizen. Other foreigners and locals quickly joined the Club.
The first President of Rotary Club of Bishkek was Giorgio Fiacconi, founder and publisher of The Times of Central Asia.
In January 1999 the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and Rotary International officially approved the Rotary Club of Bishkek.
In May 1999 the Rotary Club of Bishkek was chartered as part of Rotary district 2430 which includes part of Turkey.

Since May 1999, representatives from the following countries have joined the Rotary Club of Bishkek in meetings: Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Pakistan, Turkey, USA, England, Japan, Canada, Lebanon, Belgium, Switzerland and Australia.
 
Bishkek Rotary Club is active in various humanitarian projects designed to assist children and elderly people of country.
The Bishkek Club is cooperating with Rotary International and many clubs around the world. In Bishkek, the Club meets every Tuesday at 7:30 pm at Hyatt Regency Hotel. Local and foreign citizens interested in the activity of the Club are invited to attend.
The Club's web site has an impressive list of high profile welfare projects, some of which are -
# jointly with Swiss-German organization AWDStiftung Kinderhilfe, carries out free surgery operations for needy children with facial anomalies (clef lip and palate) from Orphanage and poor families;
# provided pure drinking water to over 35 000 people in Chuy valley by financing reconstructing the water supply system in rural areas;
# helping to create Day Care Centers for children with disabilities in rural areas in Talas province; renovating buildings and providing needed equipment.
# provides the needed medical equipment to new-born children pathology department of the National Center of pediatric and children surgeries;
# provided 2 air conditioners for 2 operating rooms of Institution of heart surgery and transplantation;
# provided medical equipment to Children Trauma Center under the Children Ambulance Hospital;
# financial assistance to more than needy children who require heart surgery;
# “Keep a kid in school” project providing books, transport and food to financially deprived people in remote villages.

  Rotaract Club of Bishkek
Rotaract club of Bishkek was founded in December 2000 by a decision of the Rotary Club of Bishkek. Charles Rector, the Youth Director of the Club, organized the first meeting on December 6th, 2000. The Club unites youth professionals and students of Kyrgyzstan (at the moment mostly in Bishkek). The members of the club make and promote commercial projects which are directed to charity events.
Rotaract Club of Bishkek is the only one for the entire Central Asia region.

Some of those projects conducted since formation include -
• May, 9th 2001 – the organization of a celebratory supper for veterans of the Second World War;
•  2002-2003 –  project «new life to old things»;
•  2002-2003 – «5 K Run»;
•  June, 1st 2006 – Day of Protection of children in Orto-Suu village;
•  October 2007 – The Pumpkin Project;
•  December 2007 – The Winter Shake Party in club "MIX" (fund raising to charity);
•  May, 11th 2008 – children's playground installation in Orto-Suu children's home;
•  June 2008 – project Children to Children (sale of the pictures drawn by children for fund raising to Orto-Suu children's home, on the Rotary club Spring ball);
• October 2008 – The Pumpkin Project;
• November 2008 – The Surprise Project.
• December 19th, 2008 – Winter Shake Party II (fundraising project);
• February 14th, 2009 – “From Heart to Heart”
• Renovation of hygienic facilities in Orto-Suu Orphanage (support of Japan Embassy) 
• June 2009 – Jazz Charity Night in “Luxor” restaurant.
